FPS in this context is the player's local frame rate (frames per second) — distinct from FPS the genre (first-person shooter). Competitive players target 240 FPS or higher to minimize input-to-photon delay. The FPS abbreviation is also widely used for first-person shooter, the genre that includes Counter-Strike, Valorant, Call of Duty, and Apex Legends.
Example
"I dropped to 90 FPS in that fight — need to lower textures." The player's frame rate dipped below their target due to high graphical load.
