veto

Definition

A veto is the map-banning phase before a tactical FPS or fighting-game match. Both teams take turns removing maps from the pool until a final map (or set of maps in a series) remains. Vetoes are central to CS2 Premier, Valorant Competitive, and pro-tier matches. Veto strategy is a meta-game of its own — punishing opponent comfort picks while protecting your own pool.

Example

"They first-banned Inferno — they don't want our T side." The opponent removed the speaker's strongest map.
