battle royale
GamesDefinition
Battle royale (BR) is the genre of last-player-standing matches starting with many players (typically 60-100), shrinking the playable area over time. The genre exploded with PUBG in 2017, Fortnite in 2017, and Apex Legends in 2019. BRs combine looting, positioning, and combat into matches that last 15-30 minutes. BR squad modes are 3- or 4-player.
Example
"Apex BR with the squad tonight." The team is playing the battle-royale mode in three-player squads.
