MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. The genre is defined by 5v5 lane-based matches with hero/champion picks, leveling, and base destruction as the win condition. The dominant MOBAs are League of Legends, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm (now retired), and Smite. The genre's mechanical depth and team-coordination demands made it the dominant esport of the 2010s.
