Definition

To demote is to drop from a ranked division or tier after a losing streak that reduces a player's LP or MMR below the threshold for their current rank. Most games include a buffer (10-15 LP into the next tier) to prevent yo-yoing between tiers. Demotion protection often shields newly promoted players for their first few losses.

Example

"I got demoted from Platinum 4 back to Gold 1" — the player lost enough LP to fall below the Platinum threshold.
