Definition

Ranked is any competitive game mode that produces a visible rank or rating tied to win/loss outcomes. Ranked modes use stricter matchmaking (SBMM), penalize AFK and dodging more harshly than casual modes, and typically reset each season. Ranked is the primary mode for serious players and is where most matchmaking research and policy discussion focuses.
