DPS

Definition

DPS stands for Damage Per Second, but is also used as a role label for any character whose primary job is to deal damage. In Overwatch 2 the DPS role contains Tracer, Genji, Sojourn, etc.; in MMOs DPS is one of the holy-trinity roles alongside tank and healer. Most teams build around carrying DPS players who convert utility into kills.

Example

"We have two DPS, one tank, two supports — standard comp." The lineup follows the typical hero-shooter team distribution.
