GG

Definition

GG stands for "good game" and is typed in chat at the end of a match as a sign of sportsmanship. The phrase originated in 1990s RTS games, particularly StarCraft. "GG WP" (good game, well played) is the longer form. The phrase is also used sarcastically: "gg" mid-match means the speaker thinks the match is already over.

Example

"GG, well played." Standard end-of-match acknowledgement that the game is over and both sides played fairly.
