off-role

Team Roles

Definition

Off-role is when a player plays outside their main role, typically because the team needs to fill a slot. Off-roling is especially significant in MOBAs and hero shooters where role specialization runs deep. Off-role performance is usually 1-2 ranks below main-role performance — a Diamond support might play Plat-level mid.

Example

"I'm off-roling jg today — main is sup but we're missing one." The player flexes to fill the team's missing role.
